2014 Ram 1500 vs 2014 Toyota Tundra

2014 Ram 1500 vs Toyota Tundra Brockton

Deciding which truck to choose can be a daunting task. Those who are serious about power and performance often narrow their options down to the 2014 Ram 1500 versus the Toyota Tundra. Each has power to spare and lots of standard and optional features, but let’s see how they match up when put side by side.

The base model of the 2014 Toyota Tundra is equipped with a 4.0-liter V6 engine that’s paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. It results in 270 horsepower. Compare that to the engine on the base model of 2014 Ram 155, which is a 3.6-liter V6, but still manages to out-power the Tundra. It’s paired with an eight-speed transmission which results in a truly impressive 305 horsepower.

There are also many interior features the Ram has that are missing on the Tundra. For example, the Ram is equipped with Chrysler’s intuitive UConnect, which works seamlessly with smartphones and was picked as the Technology of the Year in 2013 by AOL Auto.

While the 2014 Ram 1500 does have several new and upgraded features, it is largely the same as the 2013 – which is the model that was chosen as the North American Truck of the Year, as well as the Motor Trend Truck of the Year. While the Tundra is a solid truck, it’s been left behind when these awards are considered.

In most cases it will be less expensive to own the Ram. The sticker price on the base models is more than $1,000 less for the Ram compared to the Tundra, though of course the end price will be based on the trim and options chosen. Both trucks average 13 mpg in the city, but the Ram handily beats the Tundra at 25 mpg on the highway versus the Tundra’s 20 highway mpg.
